Bring On the CDO

Here’s a sketchnote outlining my thoughts on the role of a CDO in today’s organizations.

Design stewardship should inform all levels of an organization — business models, user experience, marketing, employee experience, sustainability, innovation and transformation. Design isn’t just visual, it’s a systemic understanding of how the components of an organization should come together for the best possible outcomes.

As a fractional CDO I’m called upon to design customer experiences, as well as to develop a coherent brand strategy and launch products, improve digital and human processes, manage change and lead controlled disruptions across the whole value chain.

The design of business across functions provides direction and growth while increasing cost efficiencies and reducing GTM time.

A 5 days innovation sprint or a 2 days workshop are good starting points with tremendous benefits, but long-term gain comes from infusing a culture of design thinking throughout the organization over a sustained period of time. Everyone doesn’t need to be a designer, but design stewardship for business functions empowers all to identify the right problems and align on the right ways to solve them.

Reach out if you’d like to discuss this in more detail.

I help people think clearly about the problems they want to solve & more creatively about the options they might not have considered. I also draw obsessively.
